Disney's first animated feature to venture into the Eastern world. 'Mulan' is based on a Chinese folktale dating back to 300 BC.It tells the story of a peasant girl, Mulan, who, as the eldest daughter, responds to the emperor's call to bear arms on behalf of her father. Mulan disguises herself as a man and serves in the army for 10 years. When Mulan decides to dress up as a man and fight in the place of her father, her ancestors (who are ghosts) summon up the dragon, Mushu, to help her fight in the battle. While serving, she is recognized as a courageous soldier and offered a government post. She turns down the position in favor of going home and living a peaceful life with her family. After she returns home, she changes back into her lady's clothes--and totally shocks her fellow soldiers,who didn't know she was a woman during all that time on the battlefield.
